He took a few years to begin to fulfill the immense promise that he had shown as a youth, not only at hurdles but also at long and triple jumps. Has ranked between fourth and sixth in the UK at 110mh each year from 1984 to 1989 and, with his fourth place (second Englishman) at the 1989 AAA Championships, qualified for Auckland - his first international championships. His younger brother Patrick (b.14 Jan 1970) was a junior international triple jumper, pb 15.63 1988. PM
