Won his first national medals in 1980 at 800m, with second indoors and third out in the AAA youths 800m. Made a most impressive breakthrough in 1984, taking 9.31 seconds off his pb when he ran 3:35.16 in Oslo. Missed the 1985 season through injury, but in 1987 had a series of strong races, although he disappointed in Rome. In 1988 he was second in the UK 800m and AAA 1500m and earned Olympic selection, but in 1989 he fell at the bell in the AAA 1500m and thus missed his chance of competing in Auckland. PM |
