Windsor Slough & Eton 166 Ben Nagy shines for Enfield & Haringey in British Athletic League Ben Nagy was the star of a very depleted Enfield & Haringey team that competed at the Alexandra Stadium Birmingham on Saturday in the Premier Division of the British League. Ben was the only club 'A' string winner in the 3000 metres steeple chase which he won in convincing fashion showing excellent pace judgement for a young athlete. Other Enfield and Haringey athletes who did particularly well were Luke Fagan who finished 3rd and 2nd in the 'A' string 100 metres (10.5.5) and 200metres (21.29). Elijah Winn won both the 'B' string 100/200 metre (10.81 - 21.58) Both Fagan and Winn contributed to a unexpected 2nd place in the 4 x100 relay. Shaun Collins, who has been injured recently, was 2nd in the 'A' string 5000 metres (14.47.64) and Bonnie Buwembo was 2nd in the 'B' string javelin (64. 43). Unfortunately 14 of the team were unavailable for this meeting (mostly due to injury) and those established athletes who took part were mostly well below their best. A very encouraging factor was the fact that all events were covered and those that came into the team at late notice did very well and gained valuable experience for the future. Team manager Malcolm Blackmore was disappointed with the final team result but in the circumstances, had to be satisfied. 'The Premier Division is a very competitive league and it is therefore necessary to field our strongest team for the next two matches' |
