| Details At Eton SL4 6HN 11am Field, 12noon Track Report Enfield & Haringey were once again hit by injuries in the penultimate premier league match of the season at Eton On Saturday. Many of the team also experienced horrendous traffic conditions on the M25. However, the team rallied together and managed to secure sixth position which should ensure their place in the Premier division next season. The only winners were Ben Nagy (9m20.6) and Shaun Collins(9m26.5) in the A & B steeplechase races respectively. Both these athletes have been very consistent throughout the season and gained invaluable points for the club. Shot putter Leslie Richards (17.41)and hammer thrower Sam Coe(64.23) recorded personal bests. Also encouraging were the performances of Tom Smith (1.53.3) and Shaka Palmer (1.56.5)both of whom were making their first appearances in the league. Sprinters Elijah Winn (10.5/21.3) and Gavin Eastman (10.7/22.9) gained valuable points in 100mtrs,200mtrs and sprint relay. The "star" of the team however was undoubtedly athlete Jay Hill who apart from competing in the Long Jump, filled in at late notice in hammer (51.88) and High Jump (1.85). Team Manager Malcolm Blackmore was very encouraged by the team spirit and the development of several of the younger members of the team. "Despite several set backs,the team did remarkably well and I am sure with a good performance in our home match at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre on Saturday 21st August, we can improve on our current overall league position and remain in the Premier League". Windsor Slough Eton 204. Enfield & Haringey are at present in sixth league position, with two of the eight clubs being relegated at the end of the season. However,the club have a considerable points advantage over the teams in 7th and 8th position. |
