As you will see on our 'Home page' we are a high profile vibrant club with some exciting new talent coming through who we are sure will emulate their famous predecessors some of whom can be found on our 'Roll of Honour'.
The club is run by a very active, hardworking committee under the presidency of Peter Matthews (Television Athletics Commentator and Author). A look at our 'Training Facilities' will show that we are an extremely busy club having two stadia, both of which have Grandstands and photo finish facilities, and an indoor training facility. There is continual liaison and co-operation with the London Boroughs of Enfield and Haringey to assist with the maintenance and development of the facilities.
Our wide range of coaches at both centres are renowned for their expertise and ethical approach to Athletics.
Background
It is no secret that funds coming into British Athletics have been very limited. Nowhere has been affected as much as the area where the future of British Athletics lies, the 'clubs'. The club is where the champions of tomorrow are encouraged, nurtured and developed. The schools play their part in encouraging their young athletes to join a club where they can be expertly coached. The club provides them with top class competition, helps them through the girls/boys, youth and junior ranks and prepares them for the harder rigours of the Seniors.
The lack of funds affects all athletes and in particular, those who show they have the ability to compete at an elite level in the British League, for their club, or at various representative levels, leading to International Selection.
To enable clubs to develop the potential of their athletes of both sexes and all age groups, they require financial support to assist with competition costs, training, coaching, travel to competition venues etc.
Although officials and coaches traditionally give their services free, there are the administration and running costs of the club structure.
Club Development
Enfield & Haringey AC in the main, develop their membership from young athletes that are encouraged, coached and helped right through to the Senior ranks. This creates stability and is a source of much pride, in that many of the clubs international athletes are "home grown". It also attracts other athletes, including those of International Standard, to join the club for its friendship, commitment and professionalism. Because of this approach we attract all levels of athlete, many of whom have been members of Enfield or Haringey all their athletic life.
Although we have strong Ladies and Mens sections, we are currently placing an emphasis on improving our Ladies membership. We support athletes who are disabled and those who have special needs by providing special training facilities and competition.
We boast strong 'Veterans' and Race Walking sections, the latter being the current holders of a World Record !
